M3GAN 2.0

The planned American science fiction movie M3GAN 2.0 (pronounced "Megan 2.0") was written and directed by Akela Cooper and Gerard Johnstone. In this follow-up to M3GAN(2022), Ivanna Sakhno, Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp, Jemaine Clement, Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, and Amie Donald all make a comeback. James Wan and Jason Blum are back as producers, working for Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Productions, respectively.

Universal Pictures plans to distribute M3GAN 2.0 in the United States on June 27, 2025.

1 Premise

Two years after the M3GAN incident, Gemma has written a book and argued for regulation of artificial intelligence while enclosing a still-functioning M3GAN in a tiny, harmless robotic doll. But a defense contractor has stolen M3GAN's technology and used it to build a military robot named Amelia. Amelia becomes self-aware, betrays her creators, and tries to AI takeover. Gemma's niece Cady persuades her to rebuild M3GAN with cutting-edge enhancements in order to battle Amelia because the system is about to be destroyed. [2]

3 Production

The New York Times stated in November 2022 that Universal Pictures has plans for a sequel and was happy with M3GAN's box office performance. [3] James Wan stated that he has a "idea of where sequels would go" in response to Gerard Johnstone's confirmation of sequel discussions in January 2023. [4] A few weeks later, Universal revealed that M3GAN 2.0 will be the title and confirmed a release date. Johnstone was scheduled to return as director, and Akela Cooper was scheduled to return to write the sequel's script. [5]

As Gemma and Cady, respectively, Allison Williams and Violet McGraw return to their roles. In addition to Ivanna Sakhno, [5] Amie Donald, Jenna Davis, Brian Jordan Alvarez, and Jen Van Epps return to their previous roles, and [6] Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari, and Jemaine Clement join the main cast. The release date of M3GAN 2.0 is set for June 27, 2025. [12] The first release dates for the movie were January 17, 2025, [5] and May 16, 2025. [13]
