David Koepp and Gareth Edwards are the directors and writers of the next American science fiction monster action film Jurassic World Rebirth. It is the fourth Jurassic World movie and the seventh overall in the Jurassic Park film series. It is a stand-alone follow-up to Jurassic World Dominion (2022). Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey will lead the new ensemble cast, while Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Ed Skrein will play supporting parts.

The movie's development had been going on for a while until it was announced in January 2024. A month later, Edwards was brought on as director, and casting soon followed. From June to September 2024, Principal photography was conducted in Thailand, Malta, and the United Kingdom. In the past, Koepp co-wrote the 1993 original Jurassic Park film and the 1997 follow-up, The Lost World: Jurassic Park.


On July 2, 2025, Universal Pictures plans to release Jurassic World Rebirth in the US and Canada.



1 Premise


Earth's ecology has mainly shown itself to be unfriendly to dinosaurs five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion. The remaining animals now live in isolated tropical areas that are similar to the habitats in which they once thrived. A pharmaceutical firm hires Zora Bennett, a clandestine agent, to work on a top-secret assignment alongside team leader Duncan Kincaid and paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis. Their goal is to find the three largest prehistoric species from land, sea, and air by sneaking onto a restricted island that was originally the location of Jurassic Park's initial research center. These animals' DNA contains the secret to a ground-breaking medication that could save countless lives. Both groups become stranded after the team runs upon a civilian family along the route. They learn that the island is home to failed dinosaur experiments that have undergone mutations and flourished for decades in isolation. [1] [2] [3]



2 Cast

Zora Bennett, a specialist in clandestine operations, played by Scarlett Johansson [4]. Mahershala Ali as Zora's team commander, Duncan Kincaid [1] Jonathan Bailey in the role of paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis [4] Martin Krebs, a pharmaceutical salesperson, played by Rupert Friend [4] Reuben Delgado, played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, is the father of a civilian family that was shipwrecked [4]. Teresa Delgado, Reuben's eldest daughter, played by Luna Blaise  [4] Xavier Dobbs, played by David Iacono [4] Reuben's youngest daughter, Isabella Delgado, played by Audrina Miranda [4] Zora's squad member, Philippine Velge [4] Leclerc, a member of Zora's team, played by Bechir Sylvain [5] Atwater, a member of Zora's crew, played by Ed Skrein [4].



3 Production


Michael Crichton, the author of the novels Jurassic Park(1990) and The Lost World(1995), co-wrote the script for the first movie, Jurassic Park (1993), with David Koepp. On the latter's 1997 film version, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Koepp made a comeback as the only author. At first, thinking he had nothing more to add to the series, he declined the opportunity to write another volume. [6] [7] Koepp continued to be consulted for follow-up movies. [8] [9] and ultimately contributed to Jurassic World Dominion's uncredited script (2022). [10] After working on the Jurassic World trilogy for nine years, director and writer Colin Trevorrow stated that he would probably not do it again, unless it were as an advisor. [11]



1 Development






The evolution of Jurassic World Rebirth started with a brainstorming session when executive producer Steven Spielberg asked Koepp if he would consider coming back to write a new movie in the franchise. Using ideas from both books, Koepp also reread Crichton's Jurassic Park volumes. [12] A scene from the first book that was omitted from the movie version is featured in Rebirth, where characters in a raft had to flee from a Tyrannosaurus rex. [3]



2 Pre-production


It was announced around the end of January 2024 that Universal Pictures was working on a new Jurassic World movie. [13] Spielberg will remain as executive producer through Amblin Entertainment, and Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley would produce the new Jurassic World movie through The Kennedy/Marshall Company, just like in the previous Jurassic World movies. [13] [14]


The concept had been in development for a while [13] [15], and Koepp had already produced multiple versions. [14] There would be little creative input from the eventual director because the producers had already completed some pre-production work, including dinosaur designs. [14] As the producers aimed for greater creative control than Dominion, the role was characterized as "more shooter than auteur" [16], which received largely unfavorable reviews. [17] Spielberg and Koepp intended for Rebirth to bring the franchise back to the mood of the first film in the original Jurassic Park trilogy. Koepp had no story requirements other than including dinosaurs, but he did make a list of guidelines for himself, which included making sure the movie was based on factual science and not repeating any of the events from the other movies. [18] After Dominion, paleontologist Stephen Brusatte returns as a consultant on dinosaurs. [19]


Early in February 2024, David Leitch was briefly in talks to direct the movie [20], but after a few days [21], the conversations ended because there wasn't much space for his creative input given the project's development up to that point. [14] [22] Later that month, Gareth Edwards was named director. [23] Spielberg loved the 2014 film Godzilla, and Edwards loves the first Jurassic Park. [17] [24] The Jurassic World project was "the only movie that would make me drop everything like a stone and dive right in"; Edwards had been scripting a new movie and had intended to take a vacation from studio filmmaking. [23] Among those that Edwards altered was a scene about a pterosaur nest; initially scripted to occur in a cave, he rewrote the sequence to take place within an old temple that had been abandoned. [3]


The first movie in the franchise to have no actors from earlier entries is Jurassic World Rebirth. [25] In March 2024, casting began, and it lasted for three months. Eventually, the project was joined by Scarlett Johansson [26], Jonathan Bailey [27], Manuel Garcia-Rulfo[28], Rupert Friend [29], Mahershala Ali [30], Luna Blaise [31], David Iacono [32], Audrina Miranda [33], Béchir Sylvain, and others. [34] Johansson has been a fan of the franchise for over ten years and wished to be a part of it. [35] The part that eventually went to Johansson was declined by Jennifer Lawrence. [36] Another person who declined a position was Glen Powell, who voiced Dave in the Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous(2020–2022) animated series. [37]


3 Filming


On June 13, 2024, Principal photography for the working title Saga started in Thailand. [38][39] with a month-long filming period in the nation. [40] [41] The sites included Ao Phang Nga National Park in Phang Nga, Khao Phanom Bencha National Park in Krabi, and Ko Kradanat Hat Chao Mai National Park in Trang [42]. [43] In July 2024, filming shifted to the Malta Film Studios in Kalkara, Malta. [44] A few stunts were shot in a tank, and the adjacent Mediterranean Sea was used for ocean filming, which Edwards called a "very difficult" experience. [2] Filming shifted to London and Sky Studios Elstree in the United Kingdom in August 2024 [45], and it was completed on September 27, 2024 [46] [47] [48]. [49] Three weeks later, several reshoots took place in New York City. [50]


The cinematographer was John Mathieson. [51] To evoke the aesthetics of the original film, Edwards used cameras and Panavision anamorphic lenses to shoot the project on 35mm film for the first time in his career [52] [53]. [54] [55] A combination of computer-generated graphics and animatronics were used to produce the dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. [56]


4 Marketing


On August 29, 2024, two first-look images and the movie's title were released. [57] Several film stills were revealed prior to the first trailer, which was released on February 5, 2025 [58].  [59] [2] [3] Empire's Ben Travis commented on the trailer, saying it was "visually stunning" and reminded him of the original Jurassic Park. [60] On February 9, 2025, a 60-second TV commercial was shown during Super Bowl LIX. [61]


As part of the marketing push, Mattel and Lego will create a range of toys inspired by movies. [[62], [63]]


5 Release


Jurassic World Rebirth is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 2, 2025. [20][13]
