Walt Disney Animation Studios is the producer of the upcoming American animated buddy cop comedy Zootopia 2 (also known as Zoomania 2 or Zootropolis 2 in some other regions) [b]. The second feature film in the Zootopia series is being produced by Yvett Merino, written by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, and directed by Bush and Howard [1]. [2]Alongside Ke Huy Quan, Fortune Feimster, and Quinta Brunson, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, and Shakira reprise their parts as Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and Gazelle from the previous movie.

1 Premise

Detectives Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps are on the twisted trail of an enigmatic reptile and must go undercover in Marsh Market to solve the crime. [3]

2 Voice cast

Judy Hopps, the first rabbit of the Zootopia Police Department and a youthful, upbeat bunnyburrow rabbit, is portrayed by Ginnifer Goodwin [4]. Jason Bateman plays Nick Wilde, a cunning red fox and a small-time scammer who became the first fox to join the Zootopia Police Department. Ke Huy Quan plays Gary De'Snake, a snake that Judy and Nick are chasing. [5]

Fortune Feimster plays Nibbles, a Marsh Market beaver who meets Judy, and Shakira plays Gazelle, a pop star gazelle. [6] Quinta Brunson plays Judy and Nick's companion therapist, Dr. Fuzzby, a quokka. [7]

1 Development

Directors Rich Moore and Byron Howard were discussing the prospect of a Zootopia sequel in June 2016. [8] [9] Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the sequel was in active development on February 8, 2023, during the Q1 earnings call. [10] Screenwriter Jared Bushlater acknowledged that he was working on the movie. [11] The voice actress Ginnifer Goodwin, who plays Judy Hopps, expressed her desire for a role flip between Judy and Nick in the follow-up to CinemaBlend. "I would like to see Nick have to be the one to convince Judy that the world is worth fighting for" . The voice actor for Nick Wilde, Jason Bateman, also shared his thoughts on the sequel with CinemaBlend. "Nick and Judy, we're both kicking ass out there. sanitizing the streets. We are two new police officers. So, beware, wicked guys," he said. [12]

Iger declared the movie's official title, Zootopia 2, and its release date on February 7, 2024. [13] Goodwin announced that the movie was in production on April 15 when she posted on Instagram that she had started filming her lines for Judy. [4] On August 9, at the D23 Expo, it was revealed that Zootopia 2 would have reptiles. Ke Huy Quan was cast as Gary, a snake that Nick and Judy are chasing. [5] A scene in which Nick and Judy look for Gary in Marsh Market was also captured on camera. [14] Bush announced on his X account the next day that Fortune Feimster has joined the cast to provide the voice of a beaver called Nibbles. [15]In the same month, it was disclosed that Yvett Merino was the producer and Bush was the only writer and director of the follow-up. [2] After Jennifer Lee resigned to become the director of Frozen 3, Jared Bush took over as chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios on September 19. Bush announced the next day that Zootopia's original director and creator, Byron Howard, had returned to co-direct Zootopia 2. [1] Shakira made a public announcement about her return to voice Gazelle for the sequel on November 8 at D23 Brazil. She also said that she was writing a new song for the movie and that Gazelle would be wearing a new dress. [6] Quinta Brunson was cast as Dr. Fuzzby, a new character in the movie, according to fresh video that was unveiled at CinemaCon on April 3. [7]

Zootopia 2 is slated to be released in the United States by Walt Disney Pictures on November 26, 2025. [13]
